Our Review:

First of all, we would like to thank Empower Pads for giving me the opportunity to do this review on our blog.

I have to say that when I first saw these I was a bit nervous. I have always had a very hevy flow and the Empower Pads looked less absorbant than other brands that I have used in the past. But, I did decide to go ahead and give them a try anyways. I made sure I was not leaving the house the first try, haha... When I tried them again, I did dare to leave the house to see house they would hold up with my everyday hussle and bussle. Although they do not look it, they are very absorbant. I was a little nervous a few times, but ended up being surprised at how well they held up. The only little issue I had at first was how they did not stay in place as well. The Ultra-Thin Pantiliner  and Ultra-Thin Day Pad worked well, but I have to say I really liked the Ultra-Thin Night Pad! Overall, the Empower Pads didn't feel big and bulky or give me that unfortable feeling. In fact, they were very comfortable! I have always been very picky about what pads I use because there are some that irritate my skin, but the Empower Pads didn't irritate me at all.

PURCHASE: Online at Empower Pads or take advantage of their deal on Amazon: 3 – Sample Pack (10 Day pads, 8 Night pads, 20 Pantiliners) $9 each Total $27 Value

Product Review: MOGO

Website| Facebook

Our Review:

First of all, we would like to thank MOGO for giving us the opportunity to do this review on our blog.

We were very excited to be doing a review for MOGO. Especially my daughter!
We were given the Shades and Paige Collection to review. I have to say that we thought these were the CUTTEST charm bracelets ever! We've never seen anything like this! My daughter just LOVED the fact that she can change, mix and match them to her liking at any moment the her unique style. Also, the fact that they magnetic is AWSOME! That makes it hard to loose them and trust me we had a chance to test it out by accident. She had the bracelet on while we were out one day and she thought she lost one of the MOGO's and when looking for it, guess where she found it... on my hubby's belt because she was sitting on his lap, HAHA! She abosolutely loves these MOGO's and wears them all the time.

These are most definitely a cool trendy twist on charm bracelets for girls and tweens! They come in so many different fun bright colors and designs to fit each personality. Another cool thing is that they are adjustable and can link together to create headbands, bracelets, belts, dog colars etc...

Our Review:

First of all, we would like to thank Peeled Snacks for giving us the opportunity to do this review on our blog.

I have to say that we were very excited to be doing a review for Peeled Snacks. I am the only one in my house who has ever loved dried fruit! So, I must say that I was pretty supprised when my daughter was into it as much as she was. She even asked to take some as a snack to school. We really enjoyed the fact that it taste great, it's healthy, organic and has no added sugars or oils. They have a variety of different fruits to fulfill the taste buds of many in your house hold. The texture of the peeled snacks is dried but not hard and crunchy like most dried fruits. It has a moist texture making it pleasant for enjoyment for people of all ages. It is conviently packaged to go and is ideal for a healthy travel snack. If you like the fruit then you will like the peeled version of the fruit because there is nothing artificial about it. And guess what?! These wonderful snacks are now available in Starbucks throughout the US and Canada. How awsome is that!

Here's a few pics I took. Enjoy!

April Hair Carnival: Copy Cat Style

For this month’s Hair Carnival I'm excited to say that I joined up with some great bloggers and we paired up and recreated styles from one another. I had the opportunity to be paired up with a great blog Charlotte's Avenue and decided to do our own rendition on two of their different styles.

Click for original Braided Bun
I was shocked when Yaya request this style two days in a row. In the top pic she wore it in the middle and in the second pic she wore it on the side. She normally gives me issues when I do a bun on her hair, but she really liked this one because it had a different twist to it. Speaking of twist, we did twist her hair instead of braiding because her hair is thin so twisting it made it look fuller.

Click for original Banana Clip w/ Braided Pompadour.
On this style we didn't have too much time, but since Yaya has bangs we left them out and I didn't realize until after that the pompadour was a little too small. Next time we'll make the pompadour a little bigger. She really enjoyed this style!

Make sure you take a look at all the other styles the rest of the bloggers have done!

Random Hairstyle

So, I was playing with Yaya's hair the other night after she washed it. I didn't know what I was going for with here hair, but I added a little bit of ors moisturizing lotion and hair pudding. I ended up parting her hair down the middle and did a couple of zigzag lines although they came out a little uneven because she kept on moving, but she ended up with eight braids, lol.

I just braided them up together for the night still unsure of what it was going to come out like. The next morning, Yaya decided that she wasn't feeling the eight braids I did on her, lol. I kinda figured she wouldn't, lol. So, I fixed them and made it into four instead. She wanted a braidout so that's what she got and I think it came out pretty nice. The pics aren't too good, but it ended up kinda like a nice little fohawk.

Happy Girl! :)

Yaya's Lunchbox: Coconut Chicken Salad

I told Yaya about a week ago that I would make her a nice salad for her to take to school for lunch. Well, I made some really good Coconut Chicken the other day that I got off of pinterest and she requested that I add the leftover chicken to her salad. Which by the way that Coconut Chicken is soo good you need to try it!

Ceasar Croutons, Roasted Garlic Almonds, Shredded Cheese and Red Wine Vinaigrette Dressing!

Dasani Water, Chooped up Lettuce, Coconut Chicken, Sliced Kiwi and a few leftover sour jelly beans.

Yaya, enjoyed this salad so much she said that she requested it again this morning! J

Moms, have you sent your kids to school with a type of salad for lunch? How did they like it?!

French Fishtail Braid

I've done fishtail braids before, but my niece wanted one and her hair was straight and silky so I figured I'd try my hand at doing a french fishtail instead of just a ponytail with a fishtail. So, with no product in her hair here's my first time trying out a french fishtail braid. I like it for my first time!

What do you think for my first time?! :o)

Spring Break Wk: Hanging Out at Sea World

As you already know, Yaya had spring break so one of the other things we did was hang out at Sea World. It was so beautiful out, we decided just to go and walk around. I got to use my new camera to take pics with which I LOVED! Hope you enjoy the pics!

Simple Half Up Half Down On A Braid Out

Just as the title says! It was very simple! This was done on a braid out before we left for a party. I just un-did her braids she had from the night before which were already moisturized. I parted across the top to make a ponytail and left the other half down. That simple!

I would say she liked this style! Wouldn't you?! :)

Spring Break Wk: Semi Homemade Donuts

It's Spring Break!!! You know what that means?! Yaya is home with me ALL week! O_o Haha... So, of course we had to come up with a couple of things to do. I will try to post what we come up with as we go. Yaya, suggested that we should make some yummy donuts to have for a snack.

Here's Yaya making a hole in the biscuits carefully to form a donut. We used canned Great Value biscuits.

Ready for frying. I took them out when they were lightly golden on each side.

As soon as I took them out, Yaya quickly dipped some in plain sugar and others in cinnamon/ sugar.

All done! Perfect to the taste!

Although I'm trying to watch what I eat, I must admit...I did have a few! Did I feel guilty after?! Sure I did! Haha... But they were soo good. Oh well!

Yaya's Lunchbox: Cheese & Crackers!

Can you believe we all forgot about Yaya's lunch last night! We were so tired that we did not even think about it. We've just been so busy lately! :/

Anywho, early this morning I told Yaya that we forgot to come up with something for her lunch. So, I tell her to just eat school lunch today because I did not get a chance to go food shopping yet. O_o Well, if you remember a previous post I did, she HATES school lunch! Hahaha... Hey, I figured I try right! Lol... That girl will do just about anything to NOT eat school lunch at all.

So, she pulls out the crackers and then ask if I can cut up some of the sharp cheddar cheese we have. I said sure, I completely forgot that we had that in the fridge. I also grabbed an apple and cut it up in slices for her and sprinled lightly with a bit of cinnamon sugar and gave her a side of Hershey's Syrup Caramel to dip it in. (YUMM... We love apples and caramel! Lol) You know what, that was a quick little lunch we put together in no time. Yaya, can sure eat crackers for days! We always get the Keebler Export Sodas Crackers, we all really love those. Here's a few added pics! :o)

If you have any ideas for lunch, that I can try out with my picky child please let me know?! Lol...

Yaya's Braid/ Bantu Knot Out

So, I had some stuff planned for Yaya and me to get into this weekend, but she took off to her friend’s house for a sleepover and came back with pink and purple hair! O_o Haha… it was just the stuff you spray! (I forgot to take a pic) I then had planned on doing the whole Sunday weekly routine we do, but with everything we had going on I was so tired and did not do it.
Yaya, just did a light wash and condition with Cantu Shea Butter shampoo and conditioner. I pulled that out from a box of products I have from back when we started this whole journey; you know you go product crazy when you’re first learning and try everything. Hahaha… I figured we should start using the stuff we have left over before going out and buying anything else.
Yaya, decided that she wanted a braid out. She has really liked them! I then sprayed her hair with a little water and since I didn’t really have anything else on hand I added a very little amount of the Suave Proffessionals Almond & Shea Butter Moisturizing Conditioner only to all of her new growth to help with detangling. Wish I would’ve took a pic, that bad boy is coming in! Haha…
I sectioned off her hair and added Coconut Oil and ORS Olive Oil Girls Hair Pudding. At first I just braided her hair, but since she wanted a curlier look to it I put the braids in Bantu knots.

The knots were falling because she kept bouncing around, lol. I love that Satin cap! It stays on her head all night! :)

She was not thrilled about taking this pic! Not a morning person! Lol...

Yaya's Lunchbox: Ground Beef Empanadas

Does your kid hate school lunch?! My daughter absolutely HATES school lunch she says! Lol...
She's been taking her own lunch to school since...kindergarten I believe! Yeah...I had to think about that for a second, lol. She's had school lunch a few times in between, but those few times she was not happy with it. We've always gotten her lunchables, made her different sandwiches, added the random little sides to go with them etc…

Well, she’s soon to be 11yrs old and she’s SICK OF IT she says, lol. My baby is growing up and is tired of the same’ol things in her lunch box. *SIGH*…So, guess it’s time this mami gets her creative gears running! Lol…

The other day I found some GOYA Empanada Discos in the back of my freezer. Man, I don’t know any Spanish person that don’t keep at least one pack of these in their freezer, lol. So anyways, I pulled them out because I had some leftover ground beef I had made. I figured, why not make them, freeze them and make them for Yaya in the mornings for her to take to lunch if she wants one. I got to say, that worked out great because she ended up wanting TWO for lunch! J

Why didn’t I think of this before?! I can stuff any kind of filling in those things! Lol…

Free Kindle/ Kindle Fire Books!

Do you or your kiddies have a Kindle or a Kindle Fire? Are they always asking for new books?! Don't want to add your credit card and risk the possibility of your kiddies accidentally buying all kinds of books! Well I found the Best Way to Setup Kindle Fire for Kids! My daughter and I both have a Kindle Fire, but I did not want her to be able to get a hold of the books that I read. So I searched for a while and found Best Way to Setup Kindle Fire for Kids! This definitely works! I made her, her own Amazon account following the steps in on the website. Now I don’t have to worry about her charging up my card.

I also showed her about Pixel of Ink - Young Edition which always has free children’s and young adults books. My daughter has so many books on her kindle already just from this site. They also have Pixel of Ink for us adults or parents! I like the fact that they have two separate sites. I too have so MANY books that I’ve gotten for free. Check it out if you, your kids or someone you know has a kindle/ kindle fire. I know we love POI! J

Wordless Wednesday: Treasured Moments!

Today marks 1yr since my hubby's safe return home from his 1yr long deployment to Afghanistan away from us!

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

*SIGH*…Yes we are there! We (my hubby & I) stood up with Yaya until about 11pm maybe even later. This is REDICULOS! We’ve been having such a hard time with her and her homework this school year. We have been to school a few times already to help and talk with teachers. This ongoing struggle with homework is just really getting so tiring. There are quite a few things that have contributed to this struggle, but when is it ENOUGH?! We’re getting tired and so is she!

The Math, ok…we have always known she struggled in that area. But, when every other subject that she used to get A’s and B’s in is going downhill…that’s just CRAZY! She has been so unmotivated it’s not even funny. She seriously does not do well with change! L (I will get into that in another post!)

Yaya, had a very thin book to read about slavery that she had to write a paragraph about. Since she did not want to write the paragraph, she took FOREVERRR to read this little book. She’s good with reading, but she just did not want to do the work. So, we (hubby & I) sat down and told her to read it to us to help motivate her. That helped for a little bit, but she kept talking so much in between that she was getting tired. SMH… So, I offered to read the other ½ of the book to her. Hey! Whatever will help, right?! Ok…after forever we finished the book and on to writing the paragraph. She still talked, but it done finally…I think it was maybe around 9pm when she supposedly started around 5pm. SMH…

Math homework…hubby helped her with that! It was finished maybe around 9:45 – 10pm. Tell me WHY she waited to tell us last minute that she also had a vocabulary packet to finish or do because she was supposed to do it in class and never did and it was now due in the morning! O_O ARE YOU CRAZY KID?!!! *SIGH*……… So here we are tired, upset, aggravated etc… WOOSAA!!! Ok...fine...whatever...let’s do this!

Slavery book, paragraph, 2 math sheets and 12 vocabulary pages from the packet later O_O, yes you read right! 11pm still tired, even more upset, and aggravated, everyone finally to bed. Morning - CRANKY KID!

Re-Useable Creamer Bottle!

So, I must admit...I'm addicted to pinterest! HAHA! I am ALWAYS on there...seriously! I came across two post a while suggested re-using your ketchup bottle as a pancake dispenser and the other suggested re-using your coffee creamer bottles to store sugar, dry beans, snacks etc... So, I didn't have a ketchup bottle to re-use so since we stay using creamer in this house I re-used that. I love it! I told Yaya that this way would be easy enough for her to even make her own pancakes on the skillet.

What do think?! :o)

Surprise! Suprise! Babies Maybe?!

My heart stopped the other night when I looked in our tank and saw that “Jewels” our very pretty Jewel Cichlid had a very strange white stringy substance hanging out of her. I called the hubby and Yaya over to come take a look because I had never seen this before. At first we thought it was poop, but their poop is brown not white, right?! (Sorry don’t mean to be gross, lol)

I decided to research this because this was definitely strange and we started thinking something was seriously wrong with “Jewels”. (Yaya names all the fish! Lol) after researching a little bit, we actually started thinking that it was parasites. OMG! Eww…I’ve never seen this before. Yaya, said maybe Jewels is having a baby! Al my hubby and I said no it can’t be because we never seen Cichlids have them like this before. We have African Cichlids as well and they have never done this, they are what you call Mouth Brooders and you can tell they are pregnant because they have them in their mouth. So, the hubby told us we'll wait until the morning and see what happens with "Jewels" and see if she is still the same way. If she is we will just take her out so she doesn't get all the other fish sick. O.k we said...sounds like a plan.

Here comes the next morning, I anxiously run to the tank because I am now worried about all of our pretty fish especially “Jewels”. O_O UMM…BABE, I yell. That white stringy parasite looking thing with a small sack in it is gone and…well…Jewels gave birth! YUP! You heard right! Yaya was right about Jewels being a mommy! Research showed Jewel Cichlids lay their babies on surface by releasing a sack.

Jewels (mom), watching over her babies there on the bottom right! J
The babies are microscopic and stick to the rocks for about 4days until they begin to swim and explore.

Toad (dad), watching over his babies on the 4th day (today) they are begingin to swim and explore.

Mom “Jewels”  (bottom) & Dad “Toad” (top) guarding and watching over their babies on 4th day (today) as they swim around. J

We think there are possibly 50+ babies in the tank along with all our other fish. We will be donating them to the pet store when they are big enough so they can put them up for adoption! J
